ULTIMATE LUNDY - WILDLIFE & HISTORY : ALL DAY
At the point where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Bristol Channel lies the most remarkable place.
An island of treasures, 3 miles long, 1/2 mile wide and an unspoilt haven for wildlife, both above and below the waves. Lundy Island lies 24 miles west of our home port of Ilfracombe, and was Britain's first statutory Marine Nature Reserve. The island is home to over 200 Atlantic grey seals and the Southwest's largest seabird colony. Depending on the time of year and weather conditions expect to see Puffins, Guillemots, Razorbills, Oyster Catchers and our favourite, Kittiwakes, with their raucous call. Higher up on the plateau the possibility of Japanese Sika deer, Soay sheep and death-defying feral goats perched precariously on the cliff face. At sea level we should see the fun loving Atlantic grey seals, many varieties of jelly fish and with luck, dolphins and porpoises, especially on the crossing.
Lundy is a place steeped in history from pirates, shipwrecks, treason and even a corrupt MP with the most ingenious smuggling operation. From the Norman Conquest to the present day all will be revealed as we cruise in comfort and style to the island, and explore the hidden treasures along the foreshore, and high above on the plateau from vantage points inaccessible from the land. This will be a day to remember!
Suitable for all ages. Complimentary hot drinks.

LYNMOUTH & HIDDEN EXMOOR : 2 HOURS
By sea the pretty fishing village of Lynmouth lies 12 miles to the east of our home port of Ilfracombe, a much less arduous journey than the 19 miles by country roads and one where you will witness not only one of the natural wonders of the southwest but also one of the greatest sights in the whole of the British Isles. Without doubt there is nowhere on the English mainland as mysterious and as remote as the stretch of coast known as the Hidden Edge of Exmoor.
Witness with us the extraordinary rock formations, tiny coves, hanging valleys and waterfalls, including the 200 metre Hollow Brook waterfall one of the highest coastal waterfalls in the UK. Just before the isolated cove of Heddons Mouth is Elwill Bay and home to a small colony of Atlantic Grey Seals who live amongst the stunning Trentishoe Bluffs. Hopefully, we will be in luck and see one or two hauled out or busy fishing in the clear waters. Past Highveer Point to the East of Heddons Mouth is the run down towards the idyllic Woody Bay with remains of a Victorian pier built to welcome paddle steamers plying the Bristol Channel. From there its Lee Abbey and its namesake cove and then on to the world famous Valley of the Rocks which looks even more spectacular from the sea. At many spots along this section, we will find colonies of sea birds safely living on the inaccessible sheer cliff faces, away from predators and disturbance. Auks in particular are present in number with Guillemots and Razorbills both on the cliffs and in social 'rafts' on the water. Finally, we arrive in Lynmouth with its iconic water powered cliff railway carrying passengers the 500 feet to Lynton above and spectacular views across the bay and to Wales in the distance. One for a future visit without doubt. Depending on tide we will venture in towards the little harbour to give another perspective of the pretty village where the East and West Lyn river valleys meet. For the return trip we head offshore to view Exmoor from afar and what sits above the coastal features explored on the outward leg.
All in all a great trip and certainly one which will be remembered!
Suitable for all ages. Well behaved dogs welcome. Toilet on board.

The Kittiwake team are committed to promoting and protecting our marine environment and will always halt the trip to recover any plastic pollution seen floating in the water. We actively encourage our passengers to help look out for these opportunities and assist with the recovery, especially our younger guests. Our schedule will always allow for this so that you can continue to enjoy all the sights above and help us make a difference to our coastal 'community'
